When a new movie like Low Rider comes out, I love to be there to be inspired by the spirit for the art of film, and in this case the culture of the car enthusiast. Many fans drove in their classic car, the low rider, with the appropriate look and style. The DJ Obray played the tunes made popular by the low rider scene. Love it when kids said "Hey, they are playing the George Lopez!"
I'm back in the swing of things here in Sacramento. I've been swamped with engagements for the last few weeks, and so to relax I enjoy an evening out under the stars. The weather is cooling down, so I expect to draw more sweatshirts and beanies. But this month is also the release period for more horror and drama films, so I expect to see more couples too.
Practice. One of the reasons I enjoy drawing at the Drive-Ins. I have been creating caricatures for a few years now. I have had the pleasure of working next to some talented artists, and am following the work of many others. And its seeing their progression that motivates me to get out and practice.
It's been just over a year since I started drawing live caricatures at the West Wind Drive-Ins in Sacramento. This past weekend I had more than one group of families come by for updates. They were genuinely excited to see me out under the stars, and happy to catch me up on current events. I am in awe that they would have my artwork in an honored place in their homes. Gotta love my job.
Summer has come to an end. The big blockbuster films of 2016 have come and gone. But drawing caricatures on a warm evening under the stars is still getting better.
