I love painting outdoors, especially here in Southern California. I hope to find a block in my weekly schedule to enjoy the weather and a short creative burst. An example is this piece.
I created this piece as a thank you commission to a dear family member, Jody Wilson. He is the hardest working producer at Electronic Arts, and well respected and appreciated for his friendly relationships with everyone. He is also a crazed Transformers fan, expect ally Soundwave. So I was inspired by a promo piece I'd seen during an online search of robot images.
I like to use aerosol because it's quick and easy to sketch with colors. I create a simple sketch and lay down a solid flat base color.
I like to follow up with form. I usually flash black or white throughout. I follow that with a light spray of the original base color.
I spent more time creating the texture of the rock than the robot. I use black and white house paint. I finish with some ink to clean up the lines. I really like the way it turned out. So what should I paint next? See you at Tower 7.
