I woke up remembering that I promised to make change in 2017. I promised that I would participate. I promised myself to think that I am still young. I walked the 6 miles from Oak Park to the Capitol Building. And I carried on my back my gift to the people: 2 chairs, an easel, paper, and some pens and colors. I am ready to share my gift of caricature art with the many faces of Sacramento in honor of Dr. King.
I found a quiet spot in the Sacramento Convention Center. I practiced my caricature art with one face, an elderly man who I never saw look up. Then I turned around and the line had begun. For the next 3 hours, I drew. I smiled, I laughed, but I never stopped drawing. At times I looked back and the line was 15 people deep. Some folks claimed to wait an hour. Thank you to the event organizers for not forcing me out. I appreciate all the families for their kind words. I am grateful that Dr. King inspired people to come together.
