Drawing a person can tell so many stories. When you have a chance to draw a senior citizen, the stories can be unexpected. I love the ability to find the core of a person, not just through the lines or the shapes. I think the challenge of the caricature artist is to highlight a person who you have just met, and capture the best traits of that person in less than 3 minutes. Over much practice, I enjoy the conversations I have as my pen moves. Sometimes I think that my hand has a mind of its own, and is just reacting to what details I am learning from the person before me.
Thank you toe the Eskaton staff and its wonderful community of senior citizens for giving me the opportunity to draw cartoons of them. I appreciate that each person sat with a youthful joy to see their caricature.
