My First Rejection

To keep me humble, I am sharing my first rejected artwork. I've been a caricature artist for 3.5 months and riding a awesome wave of success. I was told that it comes with the position, but I stand behind this piece as a solid representation of the requested individuals.

So the initial request was the boy wanted to be an army guy. I've been working on simplifying the cartoon head so I've started with a goblet form to create the jaw line and neck. I add the chin as a cup to base the bottom of the face. I feel this was pretty accurate to the kid's features.

Now mom wanted to be included in the piece so I went with a damsel saved composition. I thought it was an easy way to integrate her into the boy's request. As I drew her she was quite particular about the features to keep and delete. When she first saw the pic, she commented. "Are those my teeth?"

I returned from my break to find out that they had returned the piece. Their reasoning was they didn't like their chins.

What are your thoughts?
