Every birthday is special. How awesome is it to celebrate with a halo halo bar? That is not a double video game bar, it's a Filipino treat, sort of like a yogurt/smoothie. Anyways, I'm always excited to draw when the parents are so enthusiastic and have never had a caricature drawn before. On this day I drew 54 faces in just over two hours.

There are birthday parties, then there are BIRTHDAY PARTIES! Armaan's family celebrated his 1oth birthday at the Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium, in downtown Stockton. I usually reserve this building for large corporate functions, and Armaan's family used it in style. The gathering was easily past the couple of hundreds. Beyond family were invited friends, neighbors, and classmates. Many had never participated in Indian festivities. But when you come to have fun, that is a universal culture.
Some kids will grow up and just see another birthday pass. I'd like to think that someday Christina will have a chance to look back at these pictures and even the caricatures themselves. Maybe she'll see the smiles, and the faces of people who are part of her life. Great grandmothers, grandmothers, grandfathers, uncles, aunts, cousins, people who have in part made our life wonderful.
Beauty last forever. Some would say that drawing faces is difficult. Some would follow that with a statement for drawing those blessed to make it to their Golden Years to be the most challenging of all. Yet for me, drawing those folks who have seen a lifetime is an honor. I get a chance to capture the best of each person hidden by Father Time.
It's a Princess Party for a Princess. When you are 3 years old, will you remember the jumper, the laughter from family and friends, or even the beautiful cake? Don't worry, I have the moment captured through caricature.
